Ministries
We have active ministries at Scottsville UMC. Check out our Events page for what is going on in the life of our church throughout the week!
Bible Studies – Pastor Laura leads short-term Bible studies throughout the year. These typically meet Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings. Previous studies have included: Light of the World by Amy Jill-Levine, Savior: What the Bible Says about the Cross by Magrey deVega, Simon Peter by Adam Hamilton, and The Call by Adam Hamilton.
Children’s Ministries – We hold periodic children’s ministry events for children in our church and in the community. For more information, check out our B.L.A.S.T. Children’s Ministry page!
Choir – Our choir sings most Sundays during worship. They gather at 10:15am on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary to practice our anthems. Everyone is welcome, no matter your musical abilities! The choir is a wonderful way to lift our voices in praise of God and to give our music as an offering to the Lord.
Men’s Group – Our men’s group gathers for breakfast on the first Saturday of the month in the SUMC Fellowship Hall. They gather for fellowship, and they plan projects, such as cooking food to sell at Scottsville’s Fourth of July Parade. They also engage in service projects, helping out at the homes of different church or community members.
Missions
Disaster Relief: We work with UMCOR to send monetary aid to areas afflicted with disaster. We will collect special offerings for this aid.
Rise Against Hunger: Scottsville UMC has gathered together twice to package 10,000+ meals for those who are food insecure. These are truly multi-generational events! In addition to hosting the event, our missions team held fundraisers to raise the $4,000 required to host the event. We hope to hold another packaging event for Rise Against Hunger soon.

Hope Beyond the Bars: A prison ministry of Scottsville UMC. We sponsor inmates within the Virginia Department of Corrections to encourage them in their faith and offer Christian mentors and fellowship, as well as Bible study opportunities.
Needs of Others: Through generous donations, Scottsville UMC has a fund that helps to support individuals requiring assistance in covering their utilities or rent. Individuals receiving this assistance must be vetted by Love, Inc. Once vetted with Love, Inc., we can provide a one-time donation of up to $150, and monies are sent directly to the utility company or landlord. Individuals must wait at least 365 days before we are able to provide additional monetary donations.
