Worship

SUMC is currently operating under COVID restrictions. All worship attenders are required to wear a mask and maintain social distance of six feet at all times while on church property. Seating capacity is limited so arrive early to assure a seat. Under these restrictions, we currently do not offer Sunday school for any age, all music is pre-recorded as singing is not allowed and communion is offered to go and not consumed on site. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the church office Tuesday – Friday between the hours of 9am-12pm.

Scottsville UMC offers a vibrant traditional worship service. Vibrant in that we offer a blend of traditional and contemporary pieces of worship. We want you to feel comfortable worshiping with us so do not feel the need to dress up. Our service is interactive with call and response liturgy and music that spans the whole spectrum of Christian music. We offer contemporary style music and traditional hymns with organ accompaniment sprinkled throughout the service. We hope you will come check us out on any Sunday at 11 a.m.

If you cannot make it to our 11 a.m. service feel free to visit our sister congregation, Mount Zion United Methodist Church at 9am. Currently offering drive-in worship services due to COVID restrictions. Mount Zion is a country church nestled in the woods just outside of the town of Esmont. This is a small but welcoming congregation. We worship traditionally at Mount Zion. You will receive the same message at both Mount Zion and Scottsville.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer communion? Communion is offered on the first Sunday of every month at both locations. In addition, communion is celebrated on special Sundays and holidays throughout the year.

Can visitors receive communion? The table of Holy Communion is Christ’s table, not the table of The United Methodist Church or of our local congregation. The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ’s love and to lead a new life of peace and love.

Are children welcome in worship? Yes. Due to COVID restrictions children are required to wear a mask and remain with their parent/guardian at all times while on church property. COVID guidelines restricts the ability to offer nursery services at this time.

What should I wear? We want you to come as comfortable as possible. If that means a suit and tie or dress then feel welcome to do that. If that means shorts and a t-shirt, you are welcome to come however you feel comfortable. Christ called people of varying walks of life to worship together as one body. Come dressed in whatever way feels comfortable for you.

How long are your services? Services last about one hour. Our pastor packs a powerful message each week into 12-15 minutes. The remainder of the service is filled with beautiful prayers, music and liturgy. Our hope is that you will be transformed in this one hour and called to live out God’s command on your life when you leave.

Will I be called out in service? Our pastor will welcome you to worship collectively, never individually. If he does not recognize you he will likely speak to you individually as you exit the sanctuary. Do stop and introduce yourself to him! There is a contact sign-up sheet at the sign in desk as you enter the church building. This gives the church information to connect with you. At anytime you can remove yourself from church mailing lists.

Do I have to participate in the offering? There is an offering box available as you enter the sanctuary. All offerings are welcome  but no one should feel obligated to participate. Donations collected on Sunday mornings fund all facets of church operations. If you would like to donate to a specific mission or ministry, please make a note on your check or envelope.

Do you offer Sunday School? Not at this time due to COVID restrictions

I have more questions. Please contact our Pastor at tefrost@gmail.com with any additional questions. He would be happy to answer them for you!
