Scottsville UMC offers a vibrant traditional worship service. Vibrant in that we offer a blend of traditional and contemporary pieces of worship. We want you to feel comfortable worshiping with us so do not feel the need to dress up. Our service is interactive with call and response liturgy and music that spans the whole spectrum of Christian music. We offer contemporary style music and traditional hymns with organ accompaniment sprinkled throughout the service. We hope you will come check us out on any Sunday at 11 a.m.
If you cannot make it to our 11 a.m. service, feel free to visit our sister congregation, Mount Zion United Methodist Church at 9am. Mount Zion is a country church nestled in the woods just outside of the town of Esmont at 2620 Mt. Zion Church Rd, Esmont, VA 22937. Mt. Zion UMC is a small but welcoming congregation and has a relaxed traditional worship service.
The sermon will be the same at both Mount Zion and Scottsville, as well as online.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer communion? Communion is offered on the first Sunday of every month at both locations. In addition, communion is celebrated on special Sundays and holidays throughout the year.

Can visitors receive communion? The table of Holy Communion is Christ’s table, not the table of The United Methodist Church or of our local congregation. The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ’s love and to lead a new life of peace and love.
Are children welcome in worship? Yes.
What should I wear? We want you to come as comfortable as possible. If that means a suit and tie or dress then feel welcome to do that. If that means shorts and a t-shirt, you are welcome to come however you feel comfortable. Christ called people of varying walks of life to worship together as one body. Come dressed in whatever way feels comfortable for you.
How long are your services? Services last about one hour. Our pastor packs a powerful message each week into 12-15 minutes. The remainder of the service is filled with beautiful prayers, music and liturgy. Our hope is that you will be transformed in this one hour and called to live out God’s command on your life when you leave.
Will I be called out in service? Our pastor will welcome you to worship collectively, never individually. If she does not recognize you, she will likely speak to you individually before or after worship. Do stop and introduce yourself to her and make sure you get a welcome gift! In the gift is a contact form you can fill out an put in the offering plate. This gives the church information to connect with you. At anytime you can remove yourself from church mailing lists.
Do I have to participate in the offering? The ushers collect an offering during worship. All offerings are welcome but no one should feel obligated to participate. Donations collected on Sunday mornings fund all facets of church operations. If you would like to donate to a specific mission or ministry, please make a note on your check or envelope.
Do you offer Sunday School? Not at this time.
I have more questions. Please contact Pastor Laura at laurastratton@vaumc.org with any additional questions. She would be happy to answer them for you!
