Lent

The season of Lent begins next week with Ash Wednesday on February 22. Lent is the 40-day season of preparation before Easter. It is a time of self-reflection and drawing closer to God. Oftentimes, Christians will fast during this time – either from food or from a habit that takes them away from God. As we prepare for this season, I want to share a few resources with you that may enhance your observance.

This is a Lenten resource from our Virginia Conference called “Role Play the Gospel.” This is the first year that they have offered this resource, so I don’t know much about it. But it looks really neat. I encourage you to check it out! – https://vaumc.org/rptheg/

Several years ago, the larger United Methodist denomination created a series of videos called “Chuck Knows Church.” These short fun videos helped to explain parts of the practice of our faith. They gave a good overview of what different “church” words meant. Here is a link to some of the videos relating to the season of Lent:

Holy Week – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCWjq7bjrY4

And then I just learned about this resource where we can sign up to receive text messages during Holy Week (the week before Easter) that follow the events of Jesus during the week. I’m going to sign up for this, and I hope you join me – https://www.trytank.org/holyweek.html?mc_cid=ec4cc7e4a2&mc_eid=faad2a8c29

If you are in the Scottsville on Wednesday, February 22, then I invite you to join us as begin the Lenten season with our Ash Wednesday service. Our service will be at 7:00pm. This will be a time of contemplation, and you are invited to come as you – casual dress or work clothes are fine!
